In 1997, BEST Robotics filed for incorporation in the state of Texas and applied for 501c3 non-profit status with the Texas Comptroller and the Internal Revenue Service. The original document filings are shown below. Non-profit status was awarded in 1999, retroactive to 1997. BEST Robotics Inc. (or BRI as it came to be known by volunteers) was originally organized with a steering team structure; there was no board of directors. It wasn’t until 2003-2004, that the organization adopted new bylaws that reorganized it into a board of directors structure.
